Up to 40 centimeters of snow is forecast north of Toronto, Environment Canada warns

Environment Canada says parts of Ontario will see heavy snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, with some areas expecting up to 40 centimeters of snow.

The weather agency has issued a snow warning for parts of the province from Huron County south and Parry Sound north along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Communities along Georgian Bay could see 20 to 40 centimeters of snow, with peak snowfall rates of up to 10 centimeters per hour through this afternoon.

The agency said areas including Barrie, Collingwood and Hillsdale could see up to 30 centimeters of snow by Wednesday afternoon.

It says blizzards can reduce visibility and transitions from clear skies to heavy snow in just a few kilometers are common.

The agency is advising residents to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
